Snow Shoeing in Queenstown, South Island, Otago New Zealand
The town is surrounded by Lake Wakatipu and the awe-inspiring Southern Alps, with spectacular mountains such as the Remarkables, Cecil Peak and Ben Lomond. Queenstown and the surrounding area was the setting for the legendary films Lord of the Rings and X-Men Origins. Despite the mountainous landscape, the climate is considered to be oceanic, with warm summers and temperatures that can reach up to 30°C/86°F, and cold winters with frequent snowfalls.
Grasp the opportunity to explore the wild beauty of the area around Queenstown in an organized snowshoeing adventure. Enjoy for approximately 4 hours (3-4 km/1.9-2.5 mi distance) the chance to walk on snowy paths, learn how to read the snow and create your own trails. Put on your snowshoes (provided by operators) and start walking on the surrounding, fully snow-covered mountains!
Note: Wear multiple layers of clothing, warm shocks and closed-toe sport shoes or hiking boots. Don’t forget to bring your sunglasses with you!
