If you live in Chicago and wish to use your mountain bike in the city, there is a pretty difficult trail, where you can enjoy a great mountain biking session. The Indian Road Woods trail is a nice option, if you are looking for a singletrack nearby.
In its basic form the trail follows the river with a parallel trail on the higher ground above the flood plain for at least part of the trail. There is enough elevation change with +100 ft/30.5 m climb and -200 ft/61 m descent.
Roots and twists keep the trail interesting and you will find at least a couple of spots with woop dee doos and some jumps. The area north of central is one of these spots. There are a few spots, where you will come across some street crossings and a railroad crossing, so you have to dismount.
Keep in mind that there are lots of deer on the trail. Surprisingly this trail feels quite remote, although it is in Chicago and throws some fun obstacles at you. When the trail is dry, it is a good trail to get a quick singletrack fix close to the city!
