The Noosa River is a very popular kite-surfing spot in South East Queensland, South Australia, at 160 km/99 mi north of Brisbane, 1100 km/683 mi north of Sydney and 250 km/155 mi north of the Gold Coast. The catchment starts in Wahpoonga Range near Mount Elliot in the coastal Great Sandy National Park and meanders south through a lakes district around Tewantin. The catchment is mostly covered by sand dunes and has two major tributaries—Gin Gin Creek and Teewah Creek

Fall (August, September, October and November) is the period that offers the best kite-surfing conditions but thanks to the place’s great topography and exposure to the Atlantic ocean, there are excellent kiting conditions all the time, until March. When cold fronts come from the Atlantic ocean, the waves can reach up to 9.8 ft/3 m.
