Barra do Cunhau is situated in the municipality of Canguaretama and is considered by many as an earthly paradise. The two rivers Catu and Curimataú empty into the sea, forming a sandbank with numerous palm trees in the background. With favorable wind conditions and flat waters, this location is very popular among kiteboarders from all over the world.
Constant winds blow almost every day from July till January, between 15 and 25 knots/27.78 and 46.30 kph and the water temperature is around 27 °C/ 80.6 °F all year round. In addition, the ideal wind direction is from the northeast and the swell sizes can start from 1 m/3 ft. Barra do Cunhau is an excellent site to learn how ride waves or just improve your technique. If you like big waves, then you should go to the left side of the beach, which is not suitable for beginners.
