Cabo Frio is a municipality in the State of Rio de Janeiro, located at 150 km/93 mi eastward from the city of Rio. Rio de Janeiro, commonly known as Rio, is the capital city of the Rio de Janeiro State, the second largest city of Brazil and the third largest metropolitan area in South America. Since July 2012, part of the city has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in the category of ''cultural landscape''.

As most of the cities that are situated in Lake’s Region (Região dos Lagos), the area’s economy is mostly based on tourism. There is a number of sights that attract tourists, such as the Nossa Senhora da Guia chapel, the Nossa Senhora da Assunção church, the Feliciano Sodré bridge and the Municipal Theatre, but the main attractions are Cabo Frio’s beaches.

The most famous is Forte Beach, which is a 4 km/2 mi of white sandstrip, but there are others too, including Pero beach, Unamar beach, or Sudueste beach, 9 in total. The natural setting of the place as well as the Araruma Lake that offers constant winds to the area, render Cabo Frio a unique place for kite-surfers.

There may be conditions for different levels of difficulty, so either you are an experienced kite-surfer or a beginner, your needs will be attended.
