Montauk is a census-designated place in the town of East Hampton in Suffolk County, New York, lying on the south shore of Long Island. Located at the tip of the South Fork peninsula of Long Island, Montauk has been used as an Army, Coast Guard and Air Force base. The spot is also known with the nickname " The End ".

Montauk is a well-known tourist destination and its beauty can be seen with the naked eye. A major reason why this place is vital to be visited, is to climb the top of the Montauk Point Light, that was the first lighthouse in New York state and the fourth oldest active lighthouse in the United States, and admire the incredible view of the coast. Another amazing part of this place is Montauk Point, which hosts many daredevil surfers every year. It is located in the hamlet of Montauk, at the eastern point of Long Island. Montauk Point offers the right conditions for an amazing activity, like surfing.

Due to its oceanic climate, the spot has mild winters and not very hot summers. The wave quality is regional classic, the wave type is sand-bar, the wave direction is left and its bottom is sandy with rocks. The normal length is 50 to 150 m/164 to 492 ft and on good days can reach up to 150 to 300 m/492 to 984 ft. Best swell direction is at southwest, south, southeast, east, northeast and its size starts working at 1.0 m-1.5 m/3 ft-5 ft and holds up to 5 m/16 ft and over. The best tide movement is rising tide. Best wind direction comes from northwest and west. Especially during hurricane days, you will be able to exercise a challenging surfing.

Other spots that you can choose to exercise this amazing sport are Montauk Point Air Force Base, Montauk Point dickies left and Montauk Point turtles, with excellent surfing conditions as well. You should also bear in mind that surfing is prohibited at Montauk Point from April to December. The spot is addressed mostly to experienced surfers.
