Jacksonville has hot humid summers with light thunderstorms during the afternoon hours and mild freezes during winter. The overall temperature varies from 18 to 33°C (64 to 92°F) all year round.
Little Talbot Island is a small barrier island, located in the northeast side of Duval County, only at a few miles away from Jacksonville. Far from the crowded beaches and the noisy city, Little Talbot Island is a small paradise and part of the Florida’s State Parks network. One of the many activities available on the island is surfing and the best location is on the north side of the island. The beach is sandy and wide and during high tide, this is the place to be.
The quality of the wave is regional classic and it takes both right and left directions with consistent frequency. The size of the swell starts working from 3 ft/1 m and holds up to 8 ft/2.5 m while the best swell direction is when coming from north, south and southeast. The power of the wave is fun to ride and it works all year round.
Little Talbot Island is an exposed beach break, suitable for intermediate and advanced surfers only. Keep in mind that the surfing spot is remote and is within 30 mins walking distance from the parking lot, so take everything you need with you. Surfers should be careful of rip currents, sharks and jellyfish.
