There is a vast number of great surf breaks close to Hobart. Hope beach is a beach break between Goats Bluff and the Wedge. When it works, it offers good quality lefts and rights at all stages of the tide. Offshore winds blow from the north and the ideal swell direction is from the south, southwest. The best tide movement is falling tides and the ideal tide position is low and mid tides.

In summer, the wind blows offshore at 27%, in autumn the wind blows at 41%, in winter at 38% and in spring at 34%. The site is suitable for surfers of all levels. Keep in mind that, the best period for waves is winter when the average maximum sea temperature is at 12°C /53.6°F. Hope beach is usually crowded during weekends.
