Sugar Bowl ski resort is a ski area in northern Placer County, near Norden, along Donner Pass of Sierra Nevada, at about 46 mi/74 km from Reno on Interstate 80, California, USA. The resort was opened on the 15th of December, 1939.

It is a medium sized snowboard area around Lake Tahoe, which makes it perfect for snowboarders. The resort is known for its significant advanced terrain and high annual snowfall. Top elevation of the resort is at 8383 ft/2555 m and base elevation is at 6883 ft/2098 m. Skiable area covers 1500 ac/6.07 km².

Runs are 102 in total, of which 17% for beginners, 45% for intermediate and 38% for advanced athletes. Longest run is 3 mi/4.8 km. The resort has a lift system of 13 lifts, 5 high speed quads, 3 quads, 2 double chairs, 1 gondola and 2 surface lifts. Lift capacity is 21.740 passengers/hour.

Average snowfall is 500 in/1270 cm. Sugar Bowl has one of the most known snowboard academy, so don’t worry about your level of expertise.

Take interstate 80 west to Truckee. For the latest route from Truckee, take the last Truckee exit at Donner Pass Road.

Take interstate 80 east, towards Donner Summit. Then exit at the Norden/Soda Springs off ramp, Exit 174. Turn right on Highway 40 eastbound, and continue 3 miles to Sugar Bowl's Village Gondola parking lot. The covered parking lot is on your right. Or for faster access to the slopes and terrain park, continue on Highway 40 another 1/2 mile. Turn right at the Main entrance and park in the Main Lot for convenient slope-side parking near the new Main Lodge.

Take the Bay Bridge to Interstate 80, head east towards Sacramento/Reno. Just before you reach Donner Summit look for the "Sugar Bowl Next Exit" sign then exit at the Norden/Soda Springs off ramp. Or for faster access to the slopes and terrain park, continue on Highway 40 another 1/2 mile to the Main Lot and convenient slope-side parking beside the new Main Lodge.

When you reach Sacramento, take Hwy 80 towards Reno. When you see the "Sugar Bowl Next Exit" sign on I-80, just before Donner Summit, exit at the Norden/Soda Springs exit. Turn right on Highway 40 eastbound, and continue 3 miles to Sugar Bowl's Village Gondola parking lot. The covered parking lot is on your right.

Take Highway 89 north to Highway 80. Continue under the freeway to Donner Pass Road at the Gateway Shopping Center in Truckee. Turn left on Donner Pass Road and follow it past Donner Lake, three miles up and over the summit. Note: Donner Pass Road (Highway 40) is frequently maintained and open as conditions permit. It's the fastest route from Truckee, and much quicker than Interstate 80. Turn left at Sugar Bowl's Main Entrance for convenient slope-side parking near the new Main Lodge and quick access to our express quads and terrain parks. Or for a fun, scenic ride aboard the Village Gondola, continue 1/2 mile to the Village Gondola parking area.
BY CAR FROM Truckee
9.5 miles/15.29 km, 18 minutes
Take Donner Pass Road past Donner Lake. Head three miles up and over the summit. Note: Donner Pass Road (Highway 40) is frequently maintained and open as conditions permit. It's the fastest route from Truckee, and much quicker than Interstate 80. Turn left at Sugar Bowl's Main Entrance for convenient slope side parking near the new Main Lodge.
