There is a vast number of great surf breaks close to Hobart. Wedge is a popular beach break between Hope beach, to the north and Rebounds, to the south. Offshore winds blow from the north northwest and the ideal swell direction is from the south, southwest. Here you can explore the waves with swell sizes from 2 m-2.5 m/6 ft-8 ft and holding up to 5 m/16 ft.
The best tide movement is falling tides and the ideal tide position is low and mid tides. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 40%, in autumn the wind blows at 40%, in winter at 32% and in spring at 38%. The site is suitable for more experienced surfers, due to the big wavelength. In addition, the best period for waves is winter when the average maximum sea temperature is 12°C /53.6°F. Wedge is usually crowded during weekends.
