Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west.
There is a vast number of great surf sites and a plethora of excellent diving 0spots all along this section. Franklin Point is a sandstone reef, at the east of Portsea Pier. The spot is suitable for all levels of divers.The average depth here is at 23 m/75.5 ft and the maximum is at 33 m/108.3 ft. Visibility is good and varies from 10 m/32.8 ft to 30 m/98.4 ft.
Water temperature is up to 19°C/66.2°F in summer and early autumn months and between 15°C/59°F in winter. With an abundant marine life, divers are able to come across with spider crab, weedy sea dragons, puffer fish, octopus and other fish. Finally, apart from scuba diving you can also explore the peninsula which is famous for the variety of beaches, the wineries and the mazes. Note: watch out for boat traffic and the currents.
