Victoria is the second-smallest state of Australia. It borders with New South Wales to the north and Tasman Sea to the east. The unique combination of spectacular coastline, pristine beaches, numerous national parks, dense forests and mountains attract visitors all year long and offer a plethora of activities to sport lovers. Melbourne, Victoria's capital and one of the most populous cities in Australia, lies on the Yarra River and around the shores of Port Phillip Bay.

Mornington Peninsula lies to the southeast of Melbourne, Victoria’s capital city. It is surrounded by Western Port to the east and Port Phillips to the west. There is a vast number of great surf sites all along this section. Point Leo is a small city that boasts for more than seven surf breaks in its foreshore. First Reef is located between Second Reef and Pt Leo, Suicide Point. It is a reef break with very reliable surf.

Surfers can explore the waves with swell sizes from 1 m/3 ft and holds up to 2 m/6 ft. The best tide movement is rising and falling tides and the ideal tide position is mid and high tide. Offshore winds blow from the northwest and the ideal swell direction is from the southwest. The spot is suitable for novice and advanced surfers alike. In summer, the wind blows offshore at 24%, in autumn the wind blows at 45%, in winter at 58% and in spring at 39%.

First Reef is usually crowded during weekends. Keep in mind that, the best periods for waves is autumn and winter while during summer months the swell is often smaller. Note: watch out for sharks and rocks.
