Rising from the Eastern Cape and running along the Kwazulu-Natal's western border, the Drakensberg mountain range is the highest in South Africa standing at 3482 m/11424 ft in height. The mountains are capped by a layer of basalt of 1400 m/4593 ft thick and offers amazing flora and fauna.

4×4 driving at the Sani Pass is exciting and considered as South Africa’s most amazing mountain drive. The trail is a 45 km/28 mi return route to the Lesotho border and back.

Driving here might not put your 4×4 skills to the test, tackling the low clouds along the dirt road meandering through plunging cliffs through the Drakensberg escarpment will surely give you the thrill. Graded between 2-4, the trail can be driven all year through within sunny and freezing conditions. The 4×4 adventure lasts anything between 3-4 hours.
