Wenatchee is the largest city of Chelan County, located in North Central Washington and lies on the west side of the Columbia River. The city is also known as the Apple Capital of the world, due to the valley's many apple cultivations.

Mount Howard is the highest peak on the Nason Ridge and is located at the northern of Hwy 2, East of Stevens Pass. The top elevation of the mountain is at 7063 ft/2152 m and is suitable for climbing from spring to late fall.

In order to approach the South Route, you hike up the rough and steep Rock Lake Trail that leads you directly up the South route to the mountain’s summit. The mountain provides a pleasant snow climb early in the season.You do not have to be an advanced mountain climber, to reach Mount’s Howard summit, but because the elevation gain is more than 4000 ft/1219 m from the trail-head to the summit, a very good physical condition is important.

Mount Howard is a popular and rewarding climb, offering amazing views of alpine lakes and the surrounding mountains. If you visit South Route in early season, you will need an ice axe and crampons.
