The Gorges du Verdon, located in south-eastern France (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), is a river canyon, considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. It is about 25 km/16 mi long and up to 700 m/2296 ft deep, formed by the Verdon River and named after for its startling turquoise-green color.

The source of the Verdon River is close to the col d’Allos hill in the Trois Eveches mountain range, flowing into the Durance river near Vinon-sur-Verdon, after traveling 175 km/108 mi. The most interesting part of this journey is found between Castellane and the Pont du Galetas, on the lake of Sainte-Croix. Floating for several kilometers, the Verdon Gorge becomes the borderline between the departments of Var in the south and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in the north in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

The Verdon Canyon and the river itself offers various spots along the river for white water rafting and other outdoor activities in the Southern Alps. The phenomenal ‘playground’ of mountains and rivers stretches from the Côte d’Azur to the Verdon while Mercantour national parks will not let you down. Various schools would assist you no matter the level of your efficiency. Make a reservation for a group descent along the Verdon river, catch your breath by looking upside towards the narrow and steep sides of the Verdon Canyon.

It is recommended that you start from naval bases of Entrevaux and Castellane, in the heart of the Southern Alps! Full of thrills and spills, rafting is very popular activity in Verdon among friends who share the same team spirit in extreme sports.

The inflatable boat is supported by a crew of 4-8 persons max and maneuvered by the guide who ensures your safety. Whatever your white water experience or level of experience, you’ll enjoy this refreshing activity.
