Alta Sierra (aka Shirley Meadows) is a very small ski resort located in Wofford Heights, in the Greenhorn Mountain, at about 60 mi/96.5 km northeast from Bakersfield, California, USA.

It is used as a day resort for beginner and intermediate skiers. When you arrive in Alta Sierra, the first building you meet is the ticket office, where you can buy your passes and tickets, so make sure to stop first there.

It is a lovely place to ski with 600 ft/183 m vertical drop and top elevation at 7091 ft/2161 m. Base elevation is at 6500 ft/1981 m. The resort has 2 lifts totally with 8 runs, 30% for beginners, 40% for intermediate and 30% for advanced skiers. Longest run is 3500 ft/1066 m and ski season lasts from December to March.

It is highly recommended to wear a helmet, if you want to participate in any activities in the snow. If you don’t have a helmet, you can always rent one from the resort. If you have an active military ID card, you get 20% off in equipment rentals.
