Epirus is a geographic and administrative region, located in northwestern Greece. It is considered to be the region with the more rainfall than any other part of the country. In fact, Epirus offers imposing landscapes of outstanding natural beauty as well as a wide variety of fauna and flora.

The artificial lake of Aoos lies approximately 20 km/12.4 mi north of Metsovo, on the east side of the Prefecture of Ioannina. It was constructed in 1987 and is considered a particularly important project for the region. Due to its amazing natural position, as it nestles among the Valia Calda and the Vikos-Aoos National Parks, the location enchants numerous visitors all year round, including sports enthusiasts. A favorite activity here is kayaking.

The starting point is on the east side of the lake and the tour lasts about 1:30 hours. As you row in the blue waters, you can admire the dense beech and black pine forests, beautiful rare plants, rare bird species such as kingfishers and black storks and if you are lucky enough you can see a bear or a wolf. Keep in mind that, the spot accommodates both the beginner and advanced kayaker.

All you need to bring is a towel and a second pair of running shoes, as everything else is provided by the local schools. Finally, after your kayaking experience, you should visit Metsovo, a major tourist destination, where you can stroll in the picturesque cobblestone paths, taste delicious traditional dishes and enjoy high quality accommodation options.
