Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world and it is situated in Portugal. It is the capital and the largest city of the country, lying in the western Iberian Peninsula in the Atlantic Ocean and the River Tagus.

If you like day-trip surfing destinations, Bicas is the place for you. This amazing beach is near Lisbon and has amazing waves, waiting to be ridden by all experienced surfers. The spot is not so easy to find and you will need some kind of GPS device. It is near a NATO base, but still keep driving past the base and following signs to get there.

The place is worth when the swell reaches 1 to 1.5 m/3 – 5 ft. However, it is suggested to check the websites, in order to be informed about the conditions, before you decide to visit.

The beach features two main waves. The first one is in front of the beach entrance and breaks both ways. The right has acceptable quality, very hollow drops and a very hollow inside section. Please beware of the rocks in this section, they sometimes show their teeth, especially when the tide is low. Otherwise, the wave is a bit fat.

The second wave is a left that breaks to the right of the beach. It is a long fat wave and a better option when the tide is low, since it is not so shallow as the main point. You can also find a wave to the left of the beach, right in front of the cliffs that is rarely surfed and can handle waves from 1 m/3 ft to 5 m/16 ft.

This place gives you the chance to get really in contact with nature. It is a good weekday option, as it doesn’t host so many surfers. At weekends though, it is not so good, as it is very crowded. The spot guarantees best moments, when the wind blows from the southeast and east and the swell comes from the northwest and west.

If you are a fan of big, powerful waves, Bicas or else Tramagueira can provide them for you. So, come and enjoy the ride of your life!!
