The Himalayas or Himalaya is an Asian mountain range that separates the plains the Indian subcontinent from of the Tibetan Plateau. The range consists of over a hundred mountains, including the earth's highest mountain peak, Mount Everest.

The Himalayas offer breathtaking landscapes of snowy slopes, as well as great training opportunities. One of the best ways to explore the beauty of the mountains and exercise is mountaineering.

Mountaineering is a sport, hobby or profession of hiking, climbing mountains and skiing. It first began as an effort to reach the highest point of unclimbed big mountains. Depending on the route that is chosen, mountaineering can be performed over rock, snow or ice.

The remote and spectacular Himachal Pradesh is popular for its abundant natural beauty. Situated on the western Himalayas, is the perfect place for mountaineering.

Ladakh or ”Little Tibet” on the other hand, situated between the main Great Himalayas to the south and the Kunlun mountain range to the north, is the highest plateau of the state of Kashmir at an altitude of over 3000 m/9800 ft.

The mountaineering guided course, as it is proposed by a local Indian school, the Ascent Descent Adventures, is an opportunity to challenge yourself in both physical and mental level.

The journey lasts 40 days and gives you the chance to summit a technical mountain of 5486 – 6096 m/18000 – 20000 ft. The course includes snow craft, glacier travel, rock climbing, ice climbing, Leave No Trace and of course a training at altitude that no other mountain than the Himalayas can provide.

The course also includes rope management, anchors – rock, snow, ice, belaying – escaping belay, rock climbing training, acclimatization techniques, ice climbing training – crampon technique, wilderness first aid, risk calculation and management, making steep ground safe, problem solving in mountains, SAA study and training, search and rescue techniques, mountain weather, use of map and compass, GPS use and survival techniques.

The best part is that you don’t need previous experience. You will be trained in wilderness survival to become the best mountain guide you can be.
