Sochi is a city situated in the federal subject of Krasnodar Kray, Russia. Its exact location is near the border between Russia and Georgia, on the Black Sea coast. Sochi is known to the entire world, as the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics are about to take place here.

The Sliding Center Sanki is a luge, skeleton and bobsleigh track constructed by the Russians for the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics. The center is located about 60 km/37 mi northeast of Sochi in Rzhanya Polyana and has the longest, artificial luge track of the world with 1814 m/5952 ft length.

The track was built in only two years according to the Olympic standards. It consists of 16 turns and reaches a maximum speed of approximately 135 kph/83.8 mph. The facility is situated 1215 m/3986 ft above sea level.

The track’s starting height for men’s singles luge is 1365 m/4479 ft and for women’s singles and men’s doubles at 1325 m/4347 ft. The facility has a temporary seating of 500, a permanent seating of 500 and a standing room crowd of 10000 spectators.

This track is the safest luge track that is constructed until today. Post Olympic usage includes training of the Russian team and other athletes and competitions involving luge, skeleton and bobsleigh.
