Lesvos or else Mytilini, as the locals call it, is a truly amazing green island located in the northeastern Aegean and is the third largest Greek island after Crete and Evia. Remaining still unaffected from mass tourism, with long history, incredible beaches, beautiful villages and fertile lands that produce some of the best products in the country, Lesvos is a top destination for those who want to experience the real Greece.

Sigri is one of the many villages in Lesvos and is located on the west side of the island. Widely known as the biggest natural harbor with many sandy beaches and home to one of the few known petrified forests in Europe, Sigri attracts many visitors during the summer months.

Favored with Mediterranean climate, the island usually enjoys mild winters and hot summers with many days of sunshine all year round. One of the facts that make Sigri a favorite destination for windsurfing over the last few years, is that compared to the rest of the island, it is the windiest place and the predominant north winds or else “Meltemi” winds, provide the best conditions for the windsurfing enthusiasts of all skill levels.

The bay offers many different windsurf spots to choose from, as it is wide and sandy with crystal clear water. The ideal location for windsurfing is located in front of the surf club and receives strong offshore winds that reach a speed of up to 27 knots/50 kph and sometimes more, especially on July and August. The flat water conditions are ideal for freestyle and speed windsurfing, while for those who are more into waves, the channel created between Nissiopi and Sigri is the perfect spot.

Although Sigri Bay is a relatively new destination for windsurfing, it has already hosted the European Windsurfing Cup with great success. There are lessons and top quality gear provided on the spot, as well as a beach bar, showers and rest rooms. If you are looking for some water sports action in Lesvos island, this is the place to be!
